  18. This disk contains the latest version of the X-Philes fileviewer
  19. for Windows 3.1, 3.11 and Windows 95.
  20.  
  21. To install this software, just run the setup.exe program from this disk.
  22.  
  23. You SHOULD NOT try to install the fileviewer that are located 
  24. on the CD, Use the one on this diskette instead. 
  25.  
  26. If you try to install from the CD-Rom under Windows 3.11 you may
  27. get into trouble. If your systems doesn't work properly after the install,
  28. you may have to replace the file VER.DLL with the original one
  29. from your Windows disks or the one from this disk. The problem 
  30. occurs because the setup on the CD was developed under Windows 95 and 
  31. the VER.DLL from Windows 95 is not compatible with the one under 
  32. Windows 3.11.

  34. Most of the files on this CD is packed with the standard ZIP compression 
  35. format.

  38. How to use:
  39.  
  40. The first window that appear when you start the X-Philes viewer is the
  41. arealist. This is the list of all fileareas located on the CD and all
  42. the files on this CD can be found in these areas. You only have to click
  43. ONE time with the left mousebutton to access these areas. A scrollbar
  44. will appear in the bottom of the list if all areas can't fit the window
  45. at the time.

  48. On top of the arealist window theres a menu where you can do the following:
  49.  
  50. File:
  51.        Set CD-Rom drive:
  52.          
  53.          Normaly the viewer searches automatically for the X-Philes CD-Rom.
  54.          But if it can't find it you can here manually set the correct drive
  55.          where the CD is located.
  56.  
  57.        Reset Settings:
  58.     
  59.          This option lets you center all the windows and set their default
  60.          size. This can be useful if you have moved/resized the windows 
  61.          and you want them back at the original position and size.
  62.  
  63.        Save Settings:
  64.  
  65.          Here you can save most windows size, position and fonts to a 
  66.          setup file and next time you start the viewer these settings will 
  67.          be automatically loaded.

  70.        Set Font:

  72.          Allows you to customize how the text in the arealist will appear.

  75. Search:
  76.        Search:  (Control + F)
  77.          
  78.          This option lets you search all the files description for a given
  79.          keyword. The search will be made in all fileareas on the CD.
  80.      A maximum of 1000 search hits will be listed.

  83.        About X-Philes:

  85.          Displays info about this product and system.

  90. The filelist(Area view) window will appear everytime you have selected an 
  91. area or made a successfully keyword search. The window will show you all 
  92. the files in the selected area or all the files that did match in the search.
  93. If you click on one file a event will be activated depending on the
  94. function selected in the "function" menu.
  95.  
  96. You can scroll the window Up or Down using the scrollbar to the right of 
  97. the window or using the Cursor/Page Up/Down keys.

  100. On top of the window theres a menu located and where you can do the 
  101. following:
  102.  
  103. File:    
  104.         Close: (F1)
  105.    
  106.         Allows you to close the window and goto the previous arealist 
  107.         window. The Escape key or F1 key on your keyboard will also 
  108.         activate this function.
  109.  
  110. Edit:
  111.  
  112.         Here you can set the style of the text in the areaviewer.
  113.  
  114. Search:
  115.   
  116.         This function has the same function as the Search in the previous
  117.         windows. The difference is that here you can select if you want to
  118.         search in this area(local search) or in all areas.

  121. Function:
  122.   
  123.         Here you select what you want to do when you select a file with the
  124.         left mousebutton. If you select a file and press shift at the same 
  125.         time the length of file will be displayed at the top of the window.
  126.  
  127.         View File:
  128.     
  129.             If the filename you have selected ends with .ZIP an another  
  130.             window will appear with a list with the contents of the .ZIP file.
  131.             From this list you can then select what file to display. 
  132.             The escape key or "Go Back" button will close the window.
  133.         If you press on the big "X" button, the first file in the list 
  134.             will be selected.

  136.             On the bottom of the "Zip Contents" window you can select 
  137.             what you want to do with the file you select. The function of 
  138.             these buttons are the same as the one in filelist window.
  139.             
  140.             If the filename doesn't end with .ZIP the fileviewer window 
  141.             or the picture viewer will appear.
  142.

  144.         Copy File:
  145.   
  146.             This function allows you to copy the selected file to an another
  147.             drive for later use. If you select a file with this option selected 
  148.             a fileselector will appear where you can select the target drive 
  149.             and directory.
  150.  
  151.         Upload File:
  152.    
  153.             This function is useful if you want to transfer the file to
  154.             an another computer or calculator using the standard RS-232 
  155.             serial port. X-modem is used as protocol for transferring the
  156.             files. You can only Upload files in this viewer, not downloading.
  157.             A special X-Modem uploading window will appear when you select a 
  158.             file. In this window you can select the desired communication speed
  159.             and communication port. When the target machine is ready just press
  160.             the "Start Transfer" button to start the upload. If you press the
  161.             "Cancel" button while uploading the upload will be aborted.
  162.             Just press the cancel button or the escape key to return to 
  163.             the previous window.

  166.         Info:

  168.             Will display a dialogbox with the filelength of the selected file.
  169.             An another way to display the length of a file is to hold down 
  170.             shift and select a file. The length will then be displayed at the
  171.             top of the window.

  174. The fileviewer window:
  175.  
  176. In this window the actual contents of the file is displayed.
  177. You can use the scrollbar to the right or the Cursor/Page Up/Down keys
  178. to scroll the text up or down.

  180. On the of the Windows you can view the following parameters:
  181.     
  182.     * Number of lines of the text
  183.     * Number of characters in the text (the filelength)
  184.     * The current row number the cursor is located on
  185.         * The current column the cursor is located on

  187. In the topmenu you can do the following:
  188.  
  189. File:
  190.        Save As:
  191.   
  192.           This is the function to use if you want to save the text in the 
  193.           viewer to an external file. A fileselector will appear in which
  194.           you can select the destination name, drive and directory.

  196.        Printer Setup:
  197.     
  198.           Here you can setup the printer.
  199.  
  200.        Print:
  201.    
  202.           If you want to print out the text to your printer this is the 
  203.           right option for you. When this option is selected a messagebox
  204.           is displayed with the amount of lines the text consists of. 
  205.           Press "OK" to start printing and "Cancel" return to the viewer
  206.           without printing.

  208.        Close:
  209.      
  210.           Will return you to the previous window. You can also use
  211.           F1 or the escape key to do the same thing.

  214.        Copy:

  216.           Will copy the text you have selected with the mouse into 
  217.           Windows clipboard or into some other application.

  222.           Here you can set the style of the text.

  228.           You select this option to start a new search. A window will 
  229.           appear in which you can enter the keyword to search for.

  233.           Finds the next line that matches the keyword.

  235.        Find Previous: (Control +P)

  237.           Finds the previous line that matches the keyword.

  242. Graphics viewer:

  244. If the file you are trying to view has the following extensions:
  245.  
  246.        .GIF .JPG .BMP .IMG .PCX .TGA .TIF .DIB
  247.  
  248. The graphics viewer will be activated and try to load the picture
  249. for viewing.

  251. In the graphics viewer you can do the following:
  252.  
  253.     *Zoom the pictures in several steps
  254.     *Print the picture 
  255.     *SET JPEG picture parameters
  256.

  260. the future revision of the X-Philes CD-Rom. There will perhaps be a
  261. X-Philes #2 CD-Rom available in 1996 if theres a demand for it.
